The North Western Counties Physical Education Association is very sad to report the untimely passing of our Vice Chair and Chair of the Research and Professional Development Sub Committee Gill Parry.

Gill joined the association in 2011. At that time Gill was a PE advisor for Manchester LA having previously held a similar role in Wigan.

Her passion and determination to make a difference to the lives of young people through physical education, physical activity and sport was very soon apparent. She was also clearly passionate about the opportunities available to teachers to access professional development.

Gill worked tirelessly to ensure the effectiveness of the R&PD sub committee and she was the driving force for a number of very successful conferences for teachers of physical education. She played a prominent role in the planning for the European Physical Education Association (EUPEA) forum, held in Manchester in 2017 and the European School Sports Day in September 2019. At the time of her death, Gill was planning the 2021 conference ‘ Inclusion and Diversity in Physical Education”

Gill will leave a huge gap in the heart of our association, she will be greatly missed by her many professional colleagues and of course her husband Dave.

Gill’s funeral will take place on Thursday 27th February 1.30pm at Charnock Richard Crematorium, Preston Rd, Chorley. PR75JP and afterwards at Albert’s Restaurant, School Lane, Standish, Wigan, WN60TD.
